After relocating to Shanghai in 2004, he spent two years as Editor of Shanghai Business Review, was a columnist for CNN Traveller and contributed to Business Traveler, Condé Nast Traveller, Forbes Travel Guide, Luxe Guides, Zagat and Travel + Leisure, before co-founding Scribes of the Orient and Check-in Asia. Gary is an experienced Asia travel trends analyst, commentator and travel conference speaker. He has produced detailed reports on the tourism economies of China, Japan, Myanmar and Malaysia, and was one of a handful of travel industry contributors to The Polarisation of Asian Travellers1 white paper. In December 2017, he authored Check-in Asia's 10 Key Trends in Asian Travel & Tourism report2. Having monitored Chinese domestic and outbound tourism since 2004, his book The New Chinese Traveler: Business Opportunities from the Chinese Travel Revolution3 was published in 2014. Amy Fabris-Shi A former professional ballerina, Sydney-born Amy Fabris-Shi is a respected writer, branding and content marketing expert specialising in hospitality and travel. Based in Shanghai for 15 years, she co-founded Scribes of the Orient in 2007 and Check-in Asia in 2015, and directs both companies from our China headquarters.
